Beans and Barley Title Sponsor for 2010

We are way, way psyched to announce a new title sponsor for 2010, Beans and Barley! I know, you assumed from the use of the word 'psyched' that they were sponsoring us for 1997. But no! Look to the Midwest for our team of elite road riders to drop, with specially custom designed Team Pegasus Sponsored by Bean and Barley kits.

So what is a Beans and Barley, you may ask? In short, it's a deli, café and a market located on the East Side in Milwaukee, WI, and home of some absolutely delicious vegan cookies that haunt our dreams, that actually taste like real cookies!... but back to task at hand. One of the owners, Pat Sturgis, gives us the lowdown on Beans and its roots:

"For over twenty years, and through scores of transformations large and small, Beans & Barley has stood in its East Side neighborhood, serving the wide-ranging nutritional and social needs of its customers.
Starting as a small (a half-dozen crocks for bulk goods, and two coolers) neighborhood health-food store and adding slowly to our list of products as customers requested,  Beans & Barley has maintained its steady commitment to two principles: quality and value. We have always accepted the pursuit of those goals as the primary challenge from our customers.  Whether in fresh produce or groceries, in any of the hundreds of items from our own kitchen or in a line of vitamins, we want to give you quality products, fairly priced.
We started serving food in 1979, believing that "health-food" shoppers, as much as anyone else, needed  quick, hot food in the middle of a busy day.  They did, and today the Deli -- and the 70-seat cafe -- are among the busiest spots on the East Side.
Come to our Deli and choose from the wide selection of unique hot or cold salads and entrees; take home a piece of home-made pie, cake, or tart;  browse the vitamin or body-care aisles for something to really make you feel good. Whether you're waited on by someone you've known here for 10 years, or by someone brand-new to Beans,  you can rely on their commitment to finding what you need -- even helping you figure out what that is.  If we don't know something, we'll find out.

Operating now in a light and airy modern building (our former premises went up in flames in 1993), we are more than ever committed to answering the needs of our growing number of customers. And as we continue to pursue our goal  we find that  -- more than just nutrition, more than a good domestic cheese, the right vitamins, or whole-wheat-crust apple pie -- our aim is to see you're well-fed!

Beans & Barley is open 7 days a week, serving breakfast, lunch and supper."

That's all well and good, you may say, but what's in it for me? Oh-ho, good reader. Have we got a treat for you. Stop by the Pegasus tent this weekend at the Wisconsin State Cyclocross Championships for a sample of some of their soup or chili! Or bring some disguises, and get multiple samples of each! We kid. Just come on down and party with Pegasus and Beans and Barley. You'll be able to spot the tent by the flag.
