Age: 30
Location: San Diego, CA
Disciplines/ Current Categories: Track 3 , MTB 2 / Comp , Cyclocross 2
Goals for the upcoming season: Ride my bike in some new places, Race some this summer, and top 5 in the 2's Category in CX this fall.
Why did you start racing? Hmmmm, I suppose for the thrill and for the good times and experiences that come because of races and traveling for those races
First Race Story: I think my first race was a 12hour that I did at John Muir with three guys from my work, I thought I was so bad ass doing three blue loops in 12 hours, man I was sore for days afterwards. I remember killing myself to make the 8pm cutoff, I made it by like 5 minutes and collapsed just after the finishline, all for like 10th place out of 11 teams. But it got me hooked on endurance racing for life.
1st Bicycle: Huffy that I broke the headtube off of while running it into snowbanks, first adult bicycle was a Trek 8900 that I picked out all the parts for on Pricepoint.com. Bought it off a co-worker of mine for like $200.
Current bikes: Let's see... Chinese carbon Road bike, 2x Team Painted Stevens Carbon CX race bikes, coupled Surly Crosscheck travel bike, Surly Pugsly, Niner Air9, Niner Jet9, Handsome Cycles Speedy, and a track bike I built.
Favorite Bicycle story: There are so many good storys from cycling, that's why I love it, my favorite time from last year though was Ore to Shore and the whole weekend surrounding that, great race an interesting adventure getting up there and a fun relaxing day before we headed home.
Bicycle superstitions: I like to have new socks before every race, this mostly applies to 12h races though since it would get pretty expensive during track and cross season.
Dumbest thing you've done on a bike: Man I don't really know that I've done too many dumb things on a bike, I'm sure I've crashed in some dumb ways though but fortunately I don't really remember any of them.
Special Talents? I can fix your bike for you.
Strengths: Cyclocross-type efforts.
Weaknesses: Sprints
Final words of wisdom? Go Bikepacking Sometime
