Name: B $
Location: Three blocks from Villa del Mar.
Disciplines/ Current Categories: Road, Track, CX 4
Goals for the upcoming season: One word and that’s BOULEVARD. Upgrade to 3’s all around. Win an A track race. Nacho plate in the Ensenada Ruta.
First Race Story: Raced Citizens race (cat6) at Redlands Classic. In a three rider breakaway two turns from the finish and my cat6 breakmates bump shoulders and CRASH while looking back to check our gap. I go down with them, re-breaking my still healing collarbone. Grabbed my bike and finished 5th after giving those chumps a tongue lashing that must still give them nightmares.
1st Bicycle: My dad’s purple Schwinn Stingray, we totally ruined it putting 80’s BMX parts on an all original 60’s bike. I would smoke all the BMX kids with my five speeds !
Current bikes: CAAD 3 with 9spd Record, Panasonic NJS track, Traitor SS CX, Gitane Criterium townie, 87 Schwinn Circuit for Sundays
Favorite Bicycle story: Showed up for an 80 mile road ride to Tecate on my Gitane fixed because el jefe advertised the ride as “tranquilo” I figured people would ride their fun bikes but I showed up in wool and everyone else was full kit ready to drop the hammer. I’m proud to say I hung in all day and got a few KOM points as well. My cheeks were straight raw from pedaling 120 rpm for 4 hours. I had to use baby diaper rash cream for a week.
Bicycle superstitions: A clean bike is a fast bike. Never ask someone when the last time they crashed was or if they have ever broken a collarbone. Just don’t talk about crashing at all..
Dumbest thing you've done on a bike: left the chain tensioners off my CX bike …
Special Talents? properly preparing green tea, ceramics, jazz trombone, goldsprints killa
Strengths: Hillz, Jump
Weaknesses: Making the split but never that final “move”, patience (remember to clear that other plate first)
Final words of wisdom? Don’t give up ‘til you blow up.
